Basement Remodel: First Installment

We decided to start remodeling our basement last week on Friday night at about 8:00 p.m. We simply went to Lowe's "just to look at lights" and before I knew it; Ben was on the phone to our friend Aaron who is an electrician and he was coming on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. to help hook up the lights. Well...that meant that we were going to have to get the ceiling prepped...the old lights down and decide where the new lights would go. I realized it was going to be a long night (into the morning.) So...we bought nine halogen can lights and a few other supplies, made a stop at Home Depot too...and we got to work around 10:30 p.m. The basement was pretty empty but we still had to move some things out. I sprayed the ceiling with water and began scraping the "popcorn" texturing off...about time! Ben worked to remove the old lights and put new dry wall up. We also tried to figure our where we were going to put the nine lights I decided on. We worked hard...until 3:30 a.m. for me and 4:00 a.m. for Ben. We had a little nap and woke up at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning. I was volunteered to make breakfast for Ben, Aaron and the Holbrook's came over to help too! We had some pancakes and the boys went to work. The guys ran into a couple of glitches and had to reposition where we wanted some of the lights...they did a great job and Aaron was a lifesaver as far as the electrical goes!! We owe him big time! Tait got to put a hammer through a piece of drywall and take down a section on the wall. He thought that was pretty cool. Ben and Tait worked hard the rest of the day...sanding the ceiling...mudding the walls and retexturing the ceiling with knock-down. It looks great!
Monday night Ben primed the ceiling and cleaned up a bit. Wednesday night I painted the ceiling and Ben did a second coat. Thursday night Ben and Tait hooked up the lights. Ben also sanded and mudded again...on the walls! Everything must be perfect before we paint! Tomorrow we will probably prime the walls and then hopefully paint. We are having Easter over here so...we do not want to be in a huge construction zone when everyone gets here!
So...here are some before and after shots! It is still a work in progress but it already looks great! I am really excited!

Me scraping the popcorn off the ceiling. (With a hoe)

New paint color! What do you think?

Another sample of the green paint! I am pretty excited about it! Hedge apple green.

I am excited to see it once it is all painted. I love the green and the lights look awsome. Tait did have fun and as usual learned a lot from "helping" Ben. I hope Easter dinner went well!
